5 Tips to Improve Your SEO Strategy

With the constant evolution of the internet and the way in which customers search for products, services and information, internet marketers need to find new and innovative methods of reaching their consumers. As internet sales continue to rise and growing portions of those sales originate from mobile devices, it is critical to improve your search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy for 2019.

While there are many things you can do to improve your SEO strategy, 5 primary starting points follow.

1. Optimise Your Site For Mobile Search

According to this WordStream article, 60% of Google searches are done via mobile devices. Additionally, approximately one third of all mobile Google searches are related to location.

If you don’t have a site that is optimised for mobile that is something you need to act on right NOW!!! Opting for responsive, or mobile-friendly, site design is no longer a luxury you should consider; it is a necessity you must have.

And just in case you’re still wondering if a mobile-friendly site is worth the hassle…. October 2018 saw Google switch to mobile-first indexing. According to Google’s webmaster guidelines, “Mobile-first indexing means that we’ll use the mobile version of the page for indexing and ranking, to better help our – primarily mobile – users find what they’re looking for.”

2. Resolve Any Technical Issues

Over the years, search engines have put more emphasis on user experience than what they used to, as a way to weed out the good websites from the bad.

With so many different choices for products, services and information on the internet, it is critical to have a website that is functioning properly and is easy to navigate.

Visitors will not tolerate slow websites with buttons that do not work, as they can easily find a site that doesn’t have technical issues and offers a better user experience. And remember that Google can see those broken buttons and links too!

When even the tiniest attribute of the website does not work, users are less likely to follow your Call To Action, ie fill out a form, make a purchase or call your office. So it’s important that you rectify any technical issues within your site as soon as you possibly can.

Upon its debut into the online world, social media was initially dismissed as being a trend that would shortly subside. It has become so heavily ingrained in our lives, however, that Google is now taking social media activity into consideration when positioning websites in their search results.

A solid social media presence is highly beneficial to your SEO strategy and has been known to improve visibility.

By marrying the two methods of social media and SEO together, the result is a faster indexing of websites within search engines, a better ability to interact with targeted users and faster word of mouth advertising.

4. Create Quality Content That Answers Search Queries

The key to SEO success, especially when it comes to Google, is focusing on providing the best user experience possible. Therefore, creating high-quality content that is completely relatable to search queries will significantly improve traffic and the amount of time a visitor (and potential customer) will spend on your site.

The concept is simple: the happier visitors are with your website and your targeted content, the higher probability site visibility will be boosted and, therefore, the more traffic will visit your site. See the circle there?

Google implements a variety of algorithmic updates that measure user satisfaction on a daily basis. Therefore, websites with original, well-written, useful content that focuses on answering the queries users want answered will rate well in the area of user satisfaction.

5. Focus On Local Search

In many instances, only targeting a global market is not advantageous. This is especially true when it comes to mobile search.

Mobile searches show results based on the current location of the potential consumers. With the enormous increase in mobile phone usage to find information online, updating an SEO strategy that focuses on local search will draw much more traffic your way.
